Turkish Amateur Club Harunustapor Use Bitcoin to Complete Omer Faruk Transfer
Turkish side Harunustapor have signed Omer Faruk Kiroglu using bitcoin, obtaining the player at a conversion rate of £387.
NTV Spor (h/t Four Four Two) reported the Sakarya First Division Group B side bought the 22-year-old using the cryptocurrency in a historic deal.
Club president Haldun Sehit proclaimed his joy at completing the deal using the decentralised digital money.
Speaking to NTV Spor, Sehit said:
"We did this to make a name for ourselves in the country and the world. This is a first for Turkey and the world in the transfer market.
"Our name is being mentioned on television as if we are a professional club. We are proud of this."
Kiroglu said: "This is a first for me and for the world. As my chairman said, we are doing something new. I am open to new things. I hope this deal works well for both sides."
Bitcoin was created in 2009 and can be used to buy products and services. It has had a huge leap in users and exposure in the past few years.
